orfix NJB Tray Lidding Films for Fresh and Prepared Foods

orfix NJB Packaging tray lidding films are produced at our Maynooth facility in Ireland and supplied to food manufacturers across Europe. The range seals to PET, PET/PE, PP and foil trays and covers mono PET and PET/PP, PET/PE, PE/Paper and PA/PE laminates. Anti-fog, laser-perforated, peelable, resealable and ovenable grades are available. Production is subject to strict quality tests, with conversion and slitting carried out in-house.

Below is a quick overview of our core tray lidding film products, including typical materials, end-of-life options, recycled content, seal types and anti-fog availability.

  2. Seals reliably to PET, PET/PE, PP and foil (aluminium) trays
  3. Anti-fog options maintain product visibility on chilled trays
  4. Laser-perforated grades for respiring fresh produce
  5. Skin-film grades for premium tight-fit presentation
  6. Peel-seal and weld-seal configurations available
  7. Resealable (peel-reseal) laminates for shareable packs
  8. Ovenable mono PET grades suitable for use up to 220 °C
  9. Pre-printed grades for brand-owner finishes
  10. Compatible with standard tray-sealing lines and MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) workflows

Standard formats for tray lidding applications across fresh, chilled and convenience food lines. Film dimensions and barrier levels are tailored to tray material and product needs. Mono PET is recommended where recyclability is a priority. Laminates are specified where higher barrier, specific seal chemistry or resealable functionality is required. Custom widths, anti-fog variants, laser perforation, print and peel or weld configurations are available on request.

Are our Tray Lidding Films Right for You?

Tray Lidding Film selection follows four questions, consistent with the way we specify every food-packaging material.

  • Product Type & Shelf-Life: MAP-ready lidding with an oxygen barrier extends shelf-life for fresh protein, ready meals, dairy and cut produce. Mono PET delivers a natural oxygen barrier and excellent clarity; PA/PE and PET/laminate grades carry the barrier where higher O₂ resistance or specific seal chemistry is required.
  • Production Efficiency: The range is designed to run on standard tray-sealing machines. Seal chemistry is matched to the tray material (PET, PP, PE-coated board or foil), so changes to your tray specification are reviewed before a trial run to confirm seal integrity.
  • Convenience: Peel-seal and peel-reseal grades support shareable and re-closable packs. Ovenable mono PET grades support dual-use (chilled to oven). Laser-perforated grades manage respiration for cut fruit, leaves and cooked produce.
  • Presentation: Mono PET delivers the highest clarity at shelf. Skin-film grades pull the lid tight to the product for a premium tight-fit presentation on meat, fish and cheese. Pre-printed grades carry brand graphics directly on the lid.

Applications for Tray Lidding Films from orfix NJB

  • Ready meals and convenience: sealed CPET trays, ovenable and microwaveable finishes
  • Fresh protein: meat, poultry and fish in MAP-ready configurations
  • Dairy: yogurts, desserts, pots and portion packs
  • Cut fruits and vegetables: laser-perforated lidding for respiring produce
  • Deli: salads, dips, sliced cooked meats
  • Sous vide and cooked meals: heat-stable lidding on CPET trays
  • Cheese: hard, semi-hard and soft cheese portion packs with peel or peel-reseal laminates

Mono PET and mono rPET are the most recyclable options in the lidding range: once the lid is peeled from the tray, both components move through PET streams where those exist. Mono rPET grades are available at 25, 30 and 40 µ with a minimum of 30% food-contact-approved recycled content.

Laminate structures are more capable on barrier and seal chemistry but harder to recycle in practice. PE/Paper laminates in particular cannot be separated once bonded and do not pass through paper streams cleanly, despite their paper-forward appearance. We flag this openly so that lidding specifications match both the shelf-life and the recyclability brief.

Where the pack brief prioritises compostability over recyclability, compostable lidding is also available: Compostable & Sustainable Films.

Slitting and conversion take place at the Maynooth facility, with almost 40 years of packaging experience behind the process. The slitter rewinder handles films from 10 µ to 400 µ, slitting up to 1600 mm wide across PE, OPP, PVC, cellulose, PLA and laminates, including tray-lidding grades.

Rework solutions repair crushed cores, correct tension issues, remove damaged edges and convert obsolete SKUs into usable stock. For tray-sealing lines this shortens lead times on reel changeovers and keeps existing roll inventory in production rather than in waste.

PET (CPET, APET), PET/PE-coated trays, PP trays and foil (aluminium) trays. Seal chemistry is matched to the tray at the specification stage to confirm seal integrity before a production trial.

Anti-fog lidding carries a surface treatment that prevents condensation droplets forming on the inside of the lid when a chilled pack warms slightly in transit or on shelf. It is used whenever the product must remain clearly visible through the lid, for example salads, cut fruit, ready meals and raw meat.

Mono PET grades are suitable for use up to 220 °C when specified and paired with a compatible CPET tray. Ovenable lidding and ovenable skin are specified separately from chilled-pack lidding; the maximum temperature and contact time are confirmed per grade before release.

Mono rPET lidding film is available at 25, 30 and 40 µ, with a minimum of 30% food-contact-approved recycled content. Higher recycled-content levels and mono PE and mono PP lidding are also available on request.

Yes. Peel-reseal laminates are available for shareable and re-closable packs, typically for meat, cheese, snack and confectionery. Peel-reseal grades replace rigid lids and shrink bands on those formats.

Yes. Laser-perforated lidding is used to manage respiration on cut fruit, leaves and cooked produce. Perforation pattern and hole size are specified per product; oxygen transmission values are confirmed with the supplier before release.

Start a Packaging Consultation

Tray lidding is not a catalogue decision. It starts with the four questions above: product and shelf-life, machinery and tray compatibility, convenience features (ovenable, peel-reseal, anti-fog) and on-shelf presentation. We respond with a material specification, a sample pack where useful, and a seal-chemistry match against your tray.
