orfix NJB Flow Wrap Films

orfix NJB Packaging flow wrap films are produced at our Maynooth facility in Ireland and supplied to food manufacturers across Europe. The range covers oriented polypropylene (OPP) for bakery and confectionery, polyolefin (POF) shrink films for fresh produce and proteins, and polyethylene (PE) for frozen foods and bulk powders. Plain, printed, perforated and anti-fog variants are available, with conversion and slitting carried out in-house.

Below is a quick overview of our Flow Wrap Film products, including variations, materials, barrier level, customization, and more.

Key Features of our Flow Wrap Films

  1. Mono-material OPP, POF and PE grades for horizontal flow wrappers and VFFS lines
  2. OPP gauges from 12 to 50 µ, with the highest yield per kilogram of any common flow-wrap plastic
  3. Anti-fog coatings for chilled bakery, fresh produce and cheese
  4. Micro- and macro-perforation options, pre-perforated or perforation-roller compatible
  5. Plain, single-wound and centre-folded formats, plus pre-made bags
  6. Pre-printed flexo and rotogravure formats, or plain clear stock
  7. PIR 30% recycled-content OPP available
  8. BOPP from renewable sources (used cooking oil) and biodegradable BOPP options
  9. High-barrier mono-material alternative for extended shelf-life without leaving the recyclable-film stream
  10. Compostable flow-wrap alternatives in cellulose and PLA for brands moving away from conventional plastic

Flow wrap film specifications depend on the packing line, product type, shelf-life target and sustainability requirements. The table below compares the main OPP, recycled-content OPP, renewable and biodegradable BOPP, POF and PE options by thickness, heat-seal performance, anti-fog availability and typical format. This helps define whether a standard recyclable mono-material film, a shrink-film format, a high-barrier option or a more sustainable bio-based alternative is the right starting point for the application.

Are our Flow Wrap Films Right for You?

Flow wrap selection is a trade-off between clarity, seal strength, barrier and sustainability. Four questions shape every specification.

  • Product Type & Shelf-Life: OPP suits clear packs for confectionery, biscuits and pastries. PE fits frozen, bulk or high-seal-stress products. POF works for produce, cheese and poultry where shrink performance matters. Extended shelf-life needs a high-barrier mono grade or shrink barrier bag.
  • Production Efficiency: OPP, POF and PE run on standard horizontal flow wrappers; PE also supports VFFS. Pre-perforated rolls simplify multi-SKU production, while thinner OPP gauges improve yield per kilogram.
  • Convenience: Anti-fog coatings keep chilled packs clear. Micro-perforation manages bakery moisture; macro-perforation improves airflow for fruit and vegetables.
  • Presentation: OPP gives the highest clarity and gloss. POF offers good clarity with a tight shrink fit. PE has a softer, slightly cloudier look for bread bags and frozen packs.

Applications for Flow Wrap Films from orfix NJB

  • Bakery: bread, rolls, baguettes, buns, morning goods (OPP or PE, micro-perforated for shelf-life)
  • Confectionery: chocolate bars, sweets, lollipops, pralines (OPP for clarity and gloss)
  • Snacks: biscuits, cookies, energy bars, burgers, pizzas (OPP or PE, printed)
  • Fresh produce: fruits and vegetables (POF with macro-perforation, OPP with micro-perforation)
  • Frozen foods: PE as primary choice for puncture resistance and cold-chain performance
  • Bulk powders, rice, dry snacks: PE on VFFS lines
  • Cheese, eggs and poultry: POF shrink film, pre-perforated variants available

OPP and PE are mono-materials that fit household soft-plastic recycling streams, with PE offering the clearest path for PCR (post-consumer recycled) integration. OPP with 30% PIR (post-industrial recycled) content is available today, and BOPP produced from renewable sources such as used cooking oil is in stock for brands moving towards bio-circular packaging. A biodegradable BOPP variant that degrades in under two years is available for short-shelf-life bakery and produce lines.

POF is a PP/PE blend: versatile and high-clarity, but with a narrower recycling route than pure OPP or PE. Where a full compostable flow-wrap alternative is required, cellulose and PLA grades are in stock, with shorter shelf-life trade-offs compared with conventional plastic.

Slitting and conversion take place at the Maynooth facility, with almost 40 years of packaging experience behind the process. The slitter rewinder handles films from 10 µm to 400 µm, slitting up to 1600 mm wide across PE, OPP, PVC, cellulose, PLA and laminates. Rework solutions repair crushed cores, correct tension issues, remove damaged edges and convert obsolete SKUs into usable stock.

OPP is oriented polypropylene: a mono-material film with high clarity, 12 to 50 µ, the highest yield per kilogram of the three and recyclable in household soft-plastic streams. POF is a polyolefin PP/PE blend supplied as shrink film, with good clarity and strong seals, at a higher price point and narrower recycling route. PE is polyethylene, used for horizontal flow wrap and VFFS: the strongest seals and best route for PCR content, slightly cloudier than OPP.

Yes. Anti-fog coatings are available on OPP for chilled bakery, fresh produce and cheese applications. Pre-printed anti-fog OPP is also available.

Yes. OPP with 30% PIR (post-industrial recycled) content is in stock. PE is the easiest route for higher PCR (post-consumer recycled) integration. BOPP from renewable sources (used cooking oil) and biodegradable BOPP that degrades in under two years are also available.

Macro-perforation uses visible 2 to 10 mm holes for maximum airflow: the standard choice for fresh fruit and vegetables where condensation is the main risk. Micro-perforation uses laser-cut holes under 1 mm for controlled gas exchange: extends shelf-life on bakery items, keeps crusts crisp and preserves print surfaces and barcode readability.

Yes. Pre-perforated POF, OPP and PP rolls remove the need for perforation rollers on the flow-wrap line, which simplifies changeovers and shortens setup for multi-SKU runs.

The Maynooth slitter rewinder handles films from 10 µ to 400 µ, slitting up to 1600 mm wide across PE, OPP, PVC and laminates. Custom widths and roll lengths are available on request with a quick turnaround.

Start a Packaging Consultation

Flow wrap selection is not a catalogue decision. It starts with the four questions above: product and shelf-life, line and format, convenience features and on-shelf presentation. We respond with a material specification, a sample pack where useful and a conversion plan that fits the line.
